Martel Design & Fabrication produces specialized furniture design, high-end architectural metal work, and contemporary lighting. Their facility in northern Brooklyn includes workshops for wood, metal, and plastics as well as a showroom for clients.

Bright Power's improvements included upgrading the fluorescent lighting fixtures in the workshop to high-efficiency T-8 lighting and replacing HID metal halide bulbs with high-efficiency compact fluorescent light bulbs. The spray room was outfitted with an occupancy sensor, and the CRT computer monitor was replaced with an LCD monitor. To improve temperature control in the workspace, openings in the ceiling were closed and additional insulation was installed. An additional lighting improvement was the installation of solar tubes to direct daylight from the skylights into the workshop area.

Smart Financing: The total payback on the work was about 2 ½ years. Martel Design & Fabrication received $mart Equipment Choice incentives from NYSERDA.
