Multi-Family Apartment Buildings

Energy-Efficiency for Affordable Housing

Bright Power is an integral part of the energy team at Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF), a 501(c)(3) organization whose members acquire multifamily rental housing and preserve it as affordable to low-income families, seniors, and disabled individuals.

SAHF has engaged Bright Power to analyze energy consumption across segments of the SAHF portfolio and to advise building owners, managers, and HUD on strategies and policies to enhance energy efficiency and usage of renewable energy. Our analysis includes:

  • comparison of similar buildings to target those using the most energy per square foot
  • recommendations of HVAC, lighting, and window upgrades
  • smart metering/submetering opportunities
  • feasibility of renewable energy systems such as solar photovoltaics and wind turbines
  • financial modeling of energy improvements
  • consulting on available government subsidies

As part of this project, we are working very closely with Doug Foy, DIF Enterprises.
