Green Building/LEED Certification

Green building, or "sustainable building," is environmentally-friendly building construction and operation. Green buildings cost less to operate and provide healthier, more productive environments in which people can live and work. Bright Power has experience in LEED® green building certification and Enterprise Green Communities Certification.

The U.S. Green Building Council® oversees the LEED green building certification program, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. Our consultants are LEED APs. This accreditation distinguishes building professionals who have the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the integrated design and LEED certification process.

LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:

  • sustainable site development
  • water savings
  • energy efficiency
  • materials selection
  • indoor environmental quality.

Green Communities was developed collaboratively by Enterprise Community Partners and a number of leading national organizations and experts for the purpose of providing a clear, cost-effective framework for all kinds of affordable housing: new construction and rehabilitation in multifamily as well as single family buildings. Green Communities is the first national green building program developed for affordable housing.

The Green Communities criteria are aligned with the LEED Green Building Rating System. USGBC strongly supports the Green Communities initiative. In addition, the Green Communities criteria reflect and are compatible with leading state and local green building programs.
