Dan Africk, Associate Energy Engineer
Dan conducts energy audits of multifamily buildings. He is passionate about saving energy by strategizing creative, practical solutions unique to each building. Dan finds it very satisfying to oversee and manage energy retrofitting projects, knowing that his recommendations will be implemented properly and will save energy, increase safety, improve the quality of life for the residents, while also helping the planet.
Prior to coming to Bright Power, Dan worked extensively as a weatherization and building-performance contractor, an energy auditor for the low-income weatherization program (WAP) in North Carolina, and ran his own weatherization consulting business.
When he's not crawling around attics and crawlspaces and preparing audit reports, Dan likes to spend time in the wilderness. He has a very personal understanding of insulation and the physics of heat transfer, after many nights spent sleeping in the mountains, below freezing, in naturally insulated debris huts and snow shelters, and from making fire the old school way: the bow-drill (aka rubbing sticks together). Dan has worked as a wilderness instructor, and recently hiked the entire Pacific Crest Trail, from Mexico to Canada.
Dan has a B.S. in Environmental Studies from Binghamton University. He is a BPI Building Analyst and BPI Envelope Professional.
